Created with the busy modern lifestyle in mind, with the idea that a healthy diet equals vibrant health.
Founded in 2009 by Licensed Acupuncturist, herbalist and certified Chinese nutritionist Neka Pasquale, Urban Remedy was created with the busy modern lifestyle in mind, with the idea that a healthy diet equals vibrant health.
The philosophy behind it ? Food is healing.
Regardless of a person’s natural proclivity towards detoxification, the point of a juice cleanse is to give the body a break from inflammatory foods like white flour, sugar and alcohol.
Cleanses are designed to give you an all over revitalizing boost. While your digestive system gets a rest from heavy meals and processed foods, your body gets a super infusion of healing nutrients.
A cleanse can help you detox, shed weight, rebuild on the cellular level and bring out your skin’s natural glow. It’s a great way to reboot your health and kickstart a program from healthier living.
In 2012, a friend introduced iconic supermodel Cindy Crawford to Urban Remedy juices.
She was so taken with the juices—and with Neka’s authenticity, passion, and deep knowledge— that she signed on as a partner and brand ambassador.
We interviewed Neka Pasquale on work, her wellness routine and how to stay healthy this winter.
Can you tell us more about your background as an acupuncturist, herbalist and Chinese nutritionist?
I have a Master’s degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which encompasses acupuncture, herbal therapy, dietary therapy, body work, and lifestyle modification.
Prior to starting Urban Remedy, I had a private practice for over 11 years where I treated a variety of conditions from infertility to pain management and everything in-between (in the state of California, acupuncturists are primary care physicians).
I also have a separate certification in Traditional Chinese nutrition and am also a certified First Line Therapy practitioner.
In addition to my extensive university training, I have studied with experts in the fields of nutrition, metabolic syndrome, Hep C, gynecological disorders including infertility, NAET Allergy Elimination, addiction, pain management, digestive disorders, and HIV/AIDS treatment.
What inspired you to start Urban Remedy?
I started Urban Remedy because of my passion for food and healing.
I was hosting 3-5 day retreats that incorporated juicing, raw foods, yoga, meditation, infra-red sauna, intention work and acupuncture, and attendees loved the food and juice but found they didn’t have the time or energy to buy, wash and prepare the juice and food themselves. So I started doing it on the side, and it kept growing and growing and here I am today.
Cindy’s passion is shining the light on people and things she believes in, and she saw and experienced the authenticity in Urban Remedy.
Today, iconic supermodel Cindy Crawford is a partner of Urban Remedy. How did this new adventure start?
I met Cindy through a mutual friend and we hit it off immediately. Throughout the following year we stayed in touch and I’d share products with her and her family.

I am so grateful to be working with someone as amazing as she is on so many levels. I think she is a role model who actually deserves to be one, as she’s honest, intelligent, balanced, a successful business woman and a great mom to boot.
I try to get away to Calistoga to soak in the mineral hot springs as a special treat.
What is your Beauty and Wellness routine?
My life these last couple of years has been pretty crazy! Besides running Urban Remedy, I am a single mom with a 3-year-old boy.
That means I have little to no “me” time. But I drink a lot of green juice, eat mostly a plant-based diet, and try to sleep as much as I can.
I will give myself acupuncture before I go to sleep to stay balanced, and try to get away to Calistoga to soak in the mineral hot springs as a special treat.
I also meditate once a day, which is a mainstay to staying balanced.

Where do you like to buy your beauty products?
I buy my beauty products at Evo Spa in Mill Valley. They have all natural organic skin care products.
Can you share with us some of your favorite places in L.A. and/or S.F.?
A healthy restaurant:
For healthy food in L.A., I like Cafe Gratitude. There are so many more healthy restaurants down in Southern California than in Northern California.
For healthy food in the Bay Area, I like Judahlicious and Gracias Madre in San Francisco.
A fun place for dinner?
My favorite restaurant in Southern California is Gjelina in Venice. I love sitting outside on a warm summer night with a great glass of wine.
When I’m in Northern California, I like Gather, it’s in the East Bay.
A place to exercise?
Hiking on Mt. Tam or Pelo fitness spinning class with Heather or Georgia in San Rafael.
