Pinch of Colour

The first waterless beauty brand delivering beauty with a cause;
BWB interviews CEO and founder Linda Treska

Mindfulness is in the process. Pinch of Colour takes eco-mindfulness to the next level with thoughtful, waterless formulas and means of production. Working closely with the Healing Waters Organization and Clean Water for Children, they commit to breaking cycles of poverty, minimizing the ecological footprint, and delivering beauty with a cause. BWB takes a moment to chat with founder and CEO Linda Treska about Pinch of Colour and its vision for a better future.

Tell us a little about Pinch of Colour, the concept that drives it, your ethos, and your unique formulas?

Pinch of Colour is the first and the only waterless beauty brand that delivers beauty with a cause. Each of our eco-conscious formulas are created and produced without the use of water. Because we know water is best used as a vital resource, we use soothing botanicals, nourishing natural oils and skin-loving fruit butters in its place. This waterless technology results in non-toxic, hydrating formulas that enhance skin’s luminosity, self-adjusting pigments that blend seamlessly, and long-wearing, concentrated color unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Part of the proceeds of Pinch of Colour are donated to support water charities and raise funds to improve access to safe, clean drinking water in third world countries.

For starting your business

My own life experience. I have been deeply affected by the devastating consequences of water shortage in my youth. I have seen first hand what lack of water can do to communities, schools and the overall quality of life. There are no words to describe what people in underprivileged countries go through to have a gallon of water a day that is most likely contaminated.

This life experience and awareness, coupled with my love for makeup, 20-years in the beauty industry, and passion for philanthropy, inspired the genesis of beauty with a cause: waterless beauty products created to conserve a precious natural resource and donate to those in need.

For staying creative

In general I am a very creative person. I love the business side of the business, but what I truly enjoy the most is creating new products, discovering the next “it” product and identifying key global trends. My inspirational figures are mostly human rights activists, such as Nelson Mandela, Maya Angelou, Mother Theresa, and even my own father. These figures have always inspired me deeply with their life struggles, but most importantly their wisdom.

There are so many powerful quotes that throughout the years have given me the strength to believe in myself and to never give up no matter what. It is not easy coming from a country with nothing and then working very hard to build something from the ground up. It really takes a lot of focus, determination, passion, wisdom and hard work.

How to be an effective leader

To this day, I have taken part in all aspects of my company.

The way I handle my leadership role is by listening. This has been a key point in understanding the pains and struggles that employees go through. Listening will help improve the processes and prevent mistakes from happening. It is important to work with your team hand-in-hand and to be part of their daily processes and struggles.

To this day, I have taken part in all aspects of my company. What I have learned is that in order to know how to lead effectively it is important to understand the key tasks on each job function so that you can delegate and direct the team appropriately.

Your motto

Get to the point.

Morning beauty routine

A quick shower followed by natural oils (preferably rose) all over face and body. Honey Glow Waterless Balm on my cheek bones, nose, and Cupid’s bow.

Then depending on my day agenda, either a pinch of Aria (Matte Velvet Waterless Lip Colour) on my cheeks & lips or a pinch of Mia (Matte Velvet Waterless Lip Colour) – I use my lipstick as a multi-tasking product. Lastly, I never leave my house without wearing my favorite perfume of the day.

Your “you” time

It is very hard to get my “me” time given that I balance my life between my business, family, and my two beautiful children. However, once a month, I go to one of my favorite spas in the city to get a 60-min full body massage. I enjoy the experience that the spa offers, as I love breathing into essential oils and disconnecting from the world. This is the only time when I don’t have my phone on my hands and the only time that I fully shut down.

In the evenings

A velvet burgundy dress (no designer name) that I picked up in a small vintage boutique store in Paris a long time ago. It is the most comfortable wrap-dress that looks good for any occasion.

Favorite spots to eat, shop, and go out

Oh, I have a lot of favorites. They’re mostly family-owned businesses and very authentic! One of my favorite local spots is Pepe Rosso To Go on Sullivan and W. Houston, one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. It’s so small you’d miss it, but the pasta is incredible. Liman Restaurant in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, one of my favorite authentic Turkish cuisines. Meet the Meat Steakhouse and Taverna Kyclades both in Astoria, Queens; these restaurants are owned by fellow Albanians and they are absolutely incredible, charming, welcoming and the food is always on-point.

Internationally I have many, but some of the highlights include Simon’s Restaurant in Groot Constantia, Cape Town Africa; L’Isoletta in Gustavia, St. Barths; La Bastide Saint Antoine in Grasse, South of France; and last but not least Hôtel Costes in Paris, France.

Must-have skincare & makeup products

This past year I have been using and obsessing over our brand new product that is about to hit the market in March 2018, the Skin Therapy Waterless Elixir. It is a spa-inspired product. So incredible you don’t want to stop using it. Besides this oil that is infused with youthful essential oils and Neroli, I love both Clarins and Shiseido skincare lines. Both companies have great skincare products that are very efficacious and and give great results.

Self-care rituals

I never sleep with makeup on. I wash my face twice a day with warm water and soap. Some friends in the business get upset with me for using soap (Dove for sensitive skin), but I am 36-years old, and I am very happy with the way my skin looks.

Beauty tips / when you feel your best

When I sleep the most. If I have 8-hrs of sleep, I feel great. But unfortunately it doesn’t happen quite that often. I am a workaholic and I usually manage to sleep around 4 hours tops a night.

Favorite perfume

I am a perfume lover so I have many favorites; Le Labo Rose 31, Cartier La Panthere, Narciso Rodrigues For Her, Opium by YSL, Marina Rinaldi’s perfume (which is exclusively available in stores), and Tom Ford White Patchouli.
