Fashion’s New Point of View with Marina Testino

Paving the way to a more sustainable fashion industry, one bold campaign at a time. 

The fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters on the planet, and Marina Testino is changing that — one brand and one campaign at a time. We first caught up with Testino after she wore the same bold red suit for two months during her #OneDressToImpress campaign. Since then, Testino has partnered with brands like Chanel and Fendi, as well as environmental organizations such as Oceana and Greenpeace. Her catwalk to a more sustainable fashion industry begins with Point Off View: a mission-driven micro agency for digital communication and sustainable transformation.

Testino’s work has earned her many hats, from creative director and model to photographer and environmental advocate. In other words, she is an artivist. Testino cleverly uses art to compel others to really look, acknowledge and mobilize for climate justice. Last summer, Testino posed for a photoshoot at two recycling centers in her native country, Peru. The project was a part of her “Useless Waste” initiative, which sought to remind spectators that the waste they discard lingers long after it is out of their sight. Join us as we sit down with Marina Testino and take a look at life from her point of(f) view.

So much has changed over the last year. How did you pivot? What lessons are you taking away with you?

The past year has been very challenging for everyone, but I think it has made us reflect and acknowledge what we have and what’s truly important in our lives. Living in New York, we forget to take care of our minds and bodies, as we are always on the run for the next thing and never fully enjoying the moment or making time for ourselves. I had a lot of time to reflect and appreciate being surrounded by family and taking a break from work and the city. I’ve learned to be present and focus time on my friends and family.

Your morning routine?

I’ll wake up between 7:30/8 a.m. and normally start my day by rubbing ice on my face. Then, I wash my face with charcoal soap, followed by applying One Ocean Beauty face cream and then sunscreen. I’m not really using makeup these days!

A must-have skincare product you discovered during quarantine?

I rediscovered clean beauty products during quarantine. We were four girls and my dad stuck in a house, so there was a lot of weekly beauty sessions haha. Here are some of my favorite products:

The most iconic piece in your wardrobe?

I have a black, quilted Chanel bag that my grandmother gave to me and I love it!

Your last purchase?

A chocolate cupcake!

Creative souls! I love meeting people in creative industries, discovering new artists and traveling.
