Interview

The Springs Los Angeles

Imagine a yoga studio, a spa, a cool and hip store, and a juice bar and café all in one place!

Situated in downtown Los Angeles, The Springs is a 13,500-square-foot holistic wellness center which opened a few months ago. Imagine a yoga studio, a spa (that includes infrared saunas – that we told you about in our November issue!), a cool and hip store, and a juice bar and café all in one place!
We met with its founders to learn more about it.

At the Springs, nothing seems to be missing! You have thought of it all! Can you tell us how the adventure started

Jared: Well, the idea has been in my head for quite some time. I always thought a place like this needed to exist, where people could really experience a “one-stop-shop” of health and wellness blended into the community.
It was until passing through L.A. and discovering the Arts District that we really decided that The Springs needed to happen here and now.

You created an “eco-vegan-mind-body-one-stop-shop”. Can you tell us more about what makes this place so unique?

The uniqueness stems from the fact that you can spend all day here and partake of all of our offerings.
Already in our first week of operation, we’ve had customers who have come in for a juice and yoga class, stayed for lunch, had a meeting in our communal section, and returned later for dinner and a glass of wine.
We want The Springs to feel like an extension of their living room…where they feel at home, and a sense of belonging, without any sort of exclusivity or dogma attached.

What is your wellness routine?

Kimberly and I are both 100% vegan and practicing yogis. Typically we drink juice and smoothies most of the day, and enjoy a larger meal at night.
This routine helps to continue our path toward health and detoxification, especially when combined with some of our wellness offerings like the infrared sauna, massage and gravity colonics.

Having lived in New York for the past 13 years, we understand the challenges of staying active and eating healthy during the cold months.

Any advice you can share with our readers to stay in great shape this winter?

What is this “winter” you are referring to? :-) Now that we’re living in L.A., we’ve forgotten about the seasons!
Having lived in New York for the past 13 years, we understand the challenges of staying active and eating healthy during the cold months.
We recommend sticking to a routine of green juice and lighter food during the day, and saving the heavier, warming meals for the evening.
Also, find indoors activities that keep you active, like yoga or the gym.

What are your favorites places in L.A. for lunch/outdoors exercise/healthy snacks or to indulge?

We love the other vegan restaurants around L.A., including Café Gratitude, Beverly Hills Juice Club, and Shojin (for vegan sushi).
When he is not practicing yoga, Jared enjoys spending time at the Rec Center Crossfit gym up the street.
He’s determined to prove that vegan athletes can compete on the same level as our meat-eating friends.
