Sophisticated, Elegant, Timeless: Meet Jennifer Argenti of Charlotte Brody

Charlotte Brody represents the individualistic, contemporary woman who draws on nature for inspiration and empowerment.

The creative path of Charlotte Brody traces its genesis back to Europe through meaningful study of art history. Founder and creative director, Jennifer Argenti, first studied art restoration in Florence and decorative art in London, until she finally moved her talents to the Big Apple. It was during her eight years at Christie’s International Auction House that she would eventually find her individual aesthetic. Argenti went on to study technical design and couture detailing at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, and soon after, Charlotte Brody was born. Named after her grandmother, Charlotte Brody represents the individualistic, contemporary woman who draws on nature for inspiration and empowerment. Sophisticated, elegant and timeless. Get to know the woman behind the brand and learn about her inspiration, her NYC gems, her favorite beauty products, and more.

YOUR INSPIRATION
For starting your business…

A great admirer of Phoebe Philo’s designs for Chloé as a 20-something year old employee at Christie’s auction house, I had the epiphany that, as a consumer, I was paying for Chloé’s stunning retail spaces and their world-class marketing. At that moment, I realized I could created a fashion house that only spent money on high quality fabrics and amazing artisans, and therefore offer beautiful quality products for good value.

How to be an effective leader…

There is always room for improvement, but I think communication is key. Be encouraging, delegate responsibilities, and most importantly, lead by example.

How to stay creative…

To stay creative, I find I must keep my mind open and present. Surround yourself with art and wonderful people. Inspiration is everywhere.

YOUR CITY
What you love most…

I love two elements of New York:

  1. I can drop my children off at school and volunteer ever so often for Girl Scouts while running Charlotte Brody.
  2. The talent I am surrounded by in New York is exhilarating, whether it be amazing artisans, photographers, makeup artists or creations from top European Mills.
Go-to lunch place…

I tend to have lunch at my desk from Itsu or Good Seed. If I go out, it’s often to Le Charlot near my Atelier on the Upper East Side.

A night on the town…

I sneak out with my friends to Le Bilboquet or Toloache. Saturday nights we often go to Osteria Leona – a wonderful secret in the small village of Oyster Bay.

YOUR DAY
Morning beauty routine…

I am not a big makeup wearer but I try to look presentable. My beauty regime is quite minimal. I start with Clarins Water Comfort One Step Cleanser, then I sometimes apply Clé de Peau eye contour balm. Next, I use 37 Extreme Actives High Performance Anti-Aging Treatment Foundation–it’s a bit pricey, but I’m allergic to most tinted moisturizers. Next, I swipe my cheek bones, chin and forehead with Shiseido Bronzing Powder. The final touch is Chantecaille Liquid Lumière, lip gloss, and a spritz of Blackberry Bay by Jo Malone (my winter fragrance). Then, I’m out the door…

Perfect outfit…

It depends on the occasion… Love my Charlotte Brody Stretch Flair Jean and ivory ruched sleeve sweater. It goes from school drop-off to the office.

Evening relaxation…

Reading to my six-year old before she goes to bed. Twenty minutes of meditation… Sometimes a glass of white Bourgogne while I listen to my sister’s monologue.

YOUR BEAUTY
Must-have skincare products…

Dr. Bronner’s Lavender Pure Castile liquid soap, (available at Duane Reade). Also the Traditional Greek Olive Oil Soap from Mastiha Shop, which I received from Christmas from one of my husband’s cousins. It is from Chios – the small island in Greece where his family lived for many generations.

Favorite makeup product…

Chantecaille Liquid Lumière.

YOUR NIGHTSTAND
First things you notice?

A pottery hand made by my daughter painted rainbow colors that holds my rings while I sleep. Pictures of my children and my sister’s children.

Night cream…

Sisleÿa Eye & Lip Contour Cream, which I use sparingly, but love.

Favorite tea…

PLAIN-T Jasmine Phoenix Blossom… It is a magical afternoon pick-me-up with its subtle jasmine essence and very small dose of caffeine.
