BWB had the pleasure of interviewing Julia and Craig Noik about their revolutionary new skincare company from South Africa.
BWB: What inspired you to launch your unique skincare company?
Our inspiration came from our native homeland, South Africa. We always felt very passionate about the environment, travel, tribal traditions, and Africa’s floral biodiversity. We also had a great desire to redefine African luxury through our skincare creations and showcase the incredible African plant heritage. During our travels in 2007, we discovered Marula Oil and were amazed at its moisturizing, healing and revitalizing properties. We set out to develop an entire line that focused on its benefits and combined it with many other unique and indigenous plants.
We strive to create innovative, safe and effective products that address the needs of modern living.
BWB: What sets your company apart from others today?
Our unique ingredients, quality and advanced methods for our formulations. We have very high standards, and foster direct relationships with our suppliers so we know where every single ingredient originates. We strive to create innovative, safe and effective products that address the needs of modern living. Harnessing the power of antioxidants and omegas in our formulations, we extract the full benefit from every ingredient we use. Our products are free of animals and our products are free from synthetic ingredients, cheap fillers, parabens, mineral oil, silicones, PEGs, SLSs and others.
With regular use, Marula Oil delivers advanced protection from pollution and photo-aging, neutralizing free radicals.
BWB: Tell us more about Marula Oil!
Marula Oil is the star ingredient in all our products. After Julia’s second pregnancy, we saw a remarkable improvement in her skin texture and clarity, so we began to do our own testing and brought this oil to light. African Botanics was one of the first brands to introduce Marula Oil to the luxury global market. Some of its key benefits include reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, and increased skin elasticity and firmness. Its anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial compounds soothe redness, skin irritations and repair aged or sun damaged skin. With regular use, Marula Oil delivers advanced protection from pollution and photo-aging – neutralizing free radicals. Our Marula oil is cold-pressed from the exotic fruit seeds of wild growing, bio-dynamic Marula trees and is hand-harvested in the summer from the most pristine and remote areas of South Africa. Unlike other Marula oil on the market, we bottle at the source and utilize advanced, patented technology and very sophisticated extraction methods without any heat or chemical solvents to ensure purity and full potency.
In just 24 hours, the ingredients build 20% more collagen. Fleurs d’Afrique is also ideal for mature, sensitive, hormonal, acne-prone and unbalanced skin.
BWB: Your product, Fleurs d’Afrique, Intensive Recovery Oil, is very popular! Can you tell us about its ingredients and healing benefits.
We launched Fleurs d’Afrique a few months ago after two years of research and development. Because Africa’s desert and bush plants have adapted to survive the challenges of their environment, we harvest their potent concentration of highly advanced marine biotechnology packed with anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, soothing and healing properties. After testing these ingredients, over a period of two months, wrinkle depth decreased by 10.4%, and the wrinkle volume decreased by 12%. In just 24 hours, the ingredients build 20% more collagen. Fleurs d’Afrique is also ideal for mature, sensitive, hormonal, acne-prone and unbalanced skin.
BWB: The Marula Intense Skin Repair Balm is magic! Who can benefit from this balm? How often should it be used?
Our Intense Skin Repair Balm is a multi-correctional treatment designed to replenish fatigued skin, target hydration levels, reduce redness, and restore imbalances caused by stress, environmental pollution, inflammation, hormones, and sun damage. We have incorporated the best of African apothecary ingredients and artfully merged them with the latest cutting-edge skincare technology like Retinol, Niacinamide and Resveratrol. It is thick and viscous, but not waxy like other balms. It contains a multitude of healing and soothing ingredients like Marula, Baobab oils, African Immortelle, Calendula, Evening Primrose and Rosehips seed oils chosen for their strong regenerating and anti-irritant properties. We recommend using this balm on cleansed damp skin as an intensive recovery treatment or as a moisturizer AM or PM. It can be layered under makeup as well.
Cleansing is the most important part of my skincare ritual. Removing makeup, pollution and sunscreen is the first step in achieving a healthy and clear complexion.
BWB: Can you share some of your personal beauty tips with us?
I like to think that beauty starts from within. A balanced diet, exercise and plenty of fresh water all play a huge part in how I feel and how my skin reacts to what is going on internally and externally. Establishing a regular self-care routine and taking time for yourself will make a huge difference in your daily life. Cleansing is the most important part of my skincare ritual. Removing makeup, pollution and sunscreen is the first step in achieving a healthy and clear complexion. Pure Marula Cleansing Oil combines Marula Oil with Moringa to break down impurities and sebum without stripping away the skin’s natural barrier. Deeply detoxing and masking is the second most important step. Neroli Infused Marula Oil is amazing as a daily moisturizer. It adds radiance and protects the skin from environmental pollution and free radicals. As far as body care goes, I use our Firming Botanical Body Oil daily after the shower.
BWB: Are you working on expanding the product line?
Yes! We have a lot planned for the next year. Some unexpected surprises…
